What We Do

Prevention Principles

Freemont 5 CTC is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching youth prevention principles and empowering them to be responsible citizens. We provide a comprehensive set of resources to support our mission and are committed to helping create positive change in our local community.

AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE

- Benjamin Franklin -

It is better to try to keep a bad thing from happening than it is to fix the bad thing once it has happened.

PREVENTION SCIENCE

Local Isues, Local Solutions

The goal is to identify a local health or behavior problem. Recognize the risk factors that impact the problem. Plan local opportunities and events to address these factors. Then assess their impact on the community.

!

RISK FACTORS

Can increase problem behaviors

Things in a person's life and environment that can increase the likelihood that they will experience or participate in unhealthy behaviors. Like underage drinking, substance misuse, mental illness, or violence.

PROTECTIVE FACTORS

Can help prevent problem behaviors

These conditions can reduce the effects of or change the way a person responds to risks. Examples include resiliency, bonds to family, school, and community, and recognition for positive behavior.
